How do I get mobile/cellphone coverage when there isn't any?

Does anyone know what to do when there is no mobile phone coverage in the place where you live ? Having recently moved in to a basement apartment in Brussels [with window on to the main road], I have no cellphone signal at all. My operator, Proximus, says it's because of the isolation used in the facade of the building.

Sorry if it sounds like blatantly obvious, but your options are:
- Try a different operator (you /might/ get lucky)
- Move
- Do without a mobile phone when you're at home

I have had similar issues with wireless networks. It seems to be down to the metal bars in the concrete that act as a Faraday cage.
