To be honest, the road trip will be the least of it's worries. The cat will at least be with you. In the plane, it'll be on it's own in a dark noisy cargo hold, a far more unpleasant experience.

Maybe you could put the poor sweet darling up for adoption?
Could you get a friend to fly with the cat as luggage some airlines will do that it maybe easier. We did ship cats as cargo cost a lot and had to pick them up in middle of night several years ago so can’t say who with.
Cats really hate flying BTW and will make a huge amount of noise.
Also check out regulations to import the cat they may need worming shots a certain time prior I had a friend whose cat had to quarenteed in the UK because the stupid vet didn’t write the time on the shot he gave it the passport. Good luck and please ignore J they are just a grumpy person without a care for an8mals it appears
Message for CC_R: J might only be thinking of the cats best interests.
Make sure all the documents are dated, stamped and signed before the cat travels. Perhaps go by cruise ship. The cat can then stay in a cabin.
Zeebrugge to Dublin ferry 4 times per week. Could be a solution.
The cat won't be with you if you take a freight ferry to Dublin from Zeebrugge. It'll have to stay in the car for two days and you won't be able to see to it.. Just drive to Amsterdam and take the plane.
