Lait de croissance or regular cow milk?

Question

I have a 10-month old baby who I have been breastfeeding up until this point, only he seems to have lost interest in nursing due to getting sick. Is he old enough to transition to "lait de croissance"? Also I've tried to read up on it in my limited French, and it seems that some people believe that it's all just marketing and that you can safely give your baby regular whole cow milk starting at the age of one which is what we do in the US anyway. I am just wondering what to do at this point - lait de croissance or regular cow milk for my 10-month-old who is about to completely give up nursing? Thanks for your responses.

It is not clear from your post if your baby already started on solids: from 6 month old (sometimes 4 months), your baby can start eating vegetables. Assuming that you´re doing that already, and the milk is (by now) just in addition to ´real´ food, you can buy at the pharmacies the Nutrilon 1 or Nestle 1 milk that your baby can drink until he´s one. It is made to imitate breastmilk so should contain similar ´good´ ingredients. Cows milk may be too heavy on his intestines (certainly if he´s only used to breast milk so far). From age 1 you can continue with Nutrilon 2/Nestle 2 lait the croissance which you can get in the supermarkets. I´ve done the same with my two kids (bf till 9 months, then introduced solids and bottle milk) and it went fine. I´ve always read that cows milk is better started at later, from 1.5 or so.
