Holiday before leaving the job

Question

Hi,

In continuation of my HR related questioning, I have one more question for the experts in the field. In case everything works out as hoped, I will resign from my job in January. I understand that I need to cover 6 weeks from 1-Feb. However, I have no idea how it works in case I have holidays left (not surprising this being January). I have no interest in carrying them over to another employer, as I will be moving out of Belgium.

To be precise, I will have almost 6 weeks of paid holidays left (give or take a few days). So, can I just work a few days and then holidays will cover the rest of my notice period or is it a bit more complicated than that? I am willing to help my employer during the transition, as I am not desperate to get away, but I do need to stop within March. This question is just to find out what my rights are in this regard and then I will work around that to help make a smooth transition.

How have you got 6 weeks of paid holidays left? You will only have worked for less then three months in 2013. Your entitlement to holiday in 2013 will be less than 6 days, not 6 weeks.
