Mouldy walls - no action from landlord
Hi there,
Since December we have mouldy walls in our entrance area (apparently caused by some leakages), the corners of the walls are completely black (yes it's really bad). Although we have flagged it (in writing) several times to our landlord he doesn't take any action.
What can we do about it? May we reduce the rent if so how much?
Thanks for any advices,
Mika
I certainly would not reduce or withhold rent unilaterally. Hold your horses! Have you taken photos? Have you sent evidence to your landlord? Are you sending recorded letters which must be signed by addressee? Good idea to send recorded and a copy by normal post because your landlord could choose not to accept a recorded letter. Is there anything in your lease to help you and which you could quote to your landlord? You could threaten him with a solicitor's letter if you feel you're getting nowhere. Failing that, just give notice and get out. Sometimes it's worth the hassle and expense to escape these deadbeat landlords (I speak from experience). Good luck.
