Red Cross to provide relief payments to flood-affected families in need
The Red Cross in Wallonia and Flanders have together collected €40 million in donations for the families affected by the floods that ravaged through Liège, Namur and Limburg provinces this summer. It is about to apportion €11 million to residents in the form of relief payments.
The emergency help organisations have already used €4.7 million on immediate needs, such as food and temporary shelter for those whose homes are no longer habitable. Now they have announced that some 10,000 households will received a one-time payment of €650, plus €195 per person in a household.
The relief payment will go to families that are receiving supplementary income, welfare benefits or disability benefits. The rest of the €40 million will be portioned according to a relief plan that will take shape over the coming weeks and months. The Red Cross continues to be present in the flood-affected areas for emergency supplies and assistance.
