World’s best restaurants 2022: Two Belgian addresses in top 50

Two Belgian restaurants have made it into The World’s Best 50 Restaurants, one of the most prestigious gastronomy awards in the planet.

The Jane by Nick Brill achieved 23rd place; the first time that the two-Michelin star Antwerp restaurant appeared in the top ranking after last year’s 66th position. Meanwhile, Peter Goossens’ Hof van Cleve in Kruishoutem, a three-star Michelin restaurant, climbed to 27 after 2021’s 36th place.

On winnng the award, The Jane responded on social media: “Without the superpowers of our extraordinary team, who consistently give their best effort, this would not have been possible. Thank you so much to each and every one of you, as well as The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, for this recognition.” 

Danish restaurant Geranium, headed by chef Rasmus Kofoed, was named best in the world. It was second last year, behind René Redzepi’s Noma, also located in Copenhagen.

The award show took place in London after being hosted by Antwerp last year. More than 1,000 independent culinary experts, including chefs, food journalists and restaurateurs, award the prizes.
