Cycling champion Remco Evenepoel sets up Brussels Cycling Academy

World cycling champion Remco Evenepoel is setting up a cycling academy in the Belgian capital, hoping to encourage more young people to take up the sport.

Evenepoel presented the R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy this week, announcing his intent to make cycling accessible to children and young people from all walks of life in Brussels and provide a framework for young talent to grow in cycling.

“The aim is to encourage children and young people, including those who live in more difficult circumstances and who might not have considered cycling,” Evenepoel said.

The R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy also aims to provide a training framework for young talents.

“Many young people from Brussels go racing regularly, but few get the chance to do so within a group with peers,” Evenepoel said.

“Our ultimate dream is for a young Brussels resident to be selected for the national team for the 2030 World Cycling Championships.”

The Brussels Cycling Academy is Evenepoel’s own idea, brought to fruition with support from the City of Brussels and the Brussels region.

The aim is to launch the R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy in early September with a festive kick-off in the capital. A little later, in autumn, the first tour across the country will also start.

Neighbourhood and youth centres from Brussels will play a central role in attracting young people to the cycling academy.

International sports and health company Golazo will also help organise the new project with the support of Patrick Evenepoel, Remco’s father, and Evenepoel's coaches and social coordinator.

Insurance company AG, manufacturer Soudal and bike brand Specialized will provide the necessary resources and equipment.
