Over 80 Belgian municipalities light up in pink on eve of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
More than 80 Belgian municipalities — boasting several landmark buildings — will be illuminated in pink to launch Breast Cancer Awareness Month on 30 September.
They include town halls, public buildings and iconic monuments, which are to be bathed in pink for the initiative led by Pink Ribbon, which campaigns for better medical treatment for breast cancer patients.
One in eight women in Belgium will be affected by breast cancer during her lifetime, notes the nonprofit nationwide organisation.
Men are also affected with approximately one in 1,000 men receiving a diagnosis at some point in their lives, reports RTL.
“Behind every statistic lies the story of a person affected by the disease, but also that of a partner, parent, child, friend, colleague, or neighbour,” Pink Ribbon said in a statement on the eve of the month-long action.
