Pensions minister pelted with eggs and ketchup

13:22 31/03/2015

In Eupen yesterday evening, in the Belgian province of Liège, union activists threw eggs and ketchup at Belgium’s pensions minister Daniel Bacquelaine. The minister was in Eupen to attend a conference in the context of "liberal week", where he was met by 200 militant members of the Francophone Christian and socialist trade unions CSC and FGTB, report La Libre and La Dernière Heure.

The unions’ action was intended as a sign of protest against the federal government’s recent austerity measures, which include pension reforms. Extra police officers were mobilized on the spot and were able to keep the situation under control.
