Permanent residency clarification needed - Nov 2020

Question

Hi,
I am non-EU citizen and working in Belgium on SP. I had entered in Belgium in Jan'16. But as my initial visa was till Dec'15, hence initial RP / SP (Single Permit) was valid till Dec'16. With reference to this, can you please help with the following queries:
1. This time shall I go for normal SP extension and when I complete 5 years in Dec'20 then I can go for PR? Or this time's application itself should be for PR?
2. If I get a type B Card and then quit working for a certain duration, then will that cause any issue in me staying in Belgium? Or will that cause any issue during renewal after 5 years?
3. If I get a type D Card and then quit working for a certain duration, then will that cause any issue in me staying in Belgium? Or will that cause any issue during renewal after 5 years?

Hi,
here are my 5 cents to each Q:

1. You should apply per usual procedure as before and normally if you already reached exactly 5 years (up to a day) at the moment of the application you will get automatically card B. The decision is taken by the MIA not the commune.

2. No, card B is a permanent one that entitles you to majority rights as other Belgians and cannot be taken back. It can be withdrawn only if you commit a serious crime or if you leave Belgium for more than a year. No issues for renewal if unemployed on card B. You renew the actual card, not your permanent status.

3. The same here as Q2. This status is equal to B one, with the perk that you have right to work in other EU countries. On the card B you do not have this option.

Good luck.
