Permanent resident after +5 years?

Question

I'm non-EU and have been living here for +5 years whit my family Mother 2 ender 18 year old childrain and 2 child 19years old . I'm wondering if I can apply to be a permanent resident now? What are the steps involved--do I just go to the commune, or do I make an appointment? What kind of proof do I need to show? And, how long does it normally take to become a resident? Finally, if resident status is granted, am I able to work here without a work permit? If anyone can help answer any of these questions, I would appreciate it! Thank you!

Nan

Are you here legally? Are you working here legally?

crisscross

Depends on if you are residing in Belgium legally or not. If you are legal then after 5 years you will automatically get a permanent residency status (card valid for 5 years each time) and then you wont need a work permit. And you cannot apply for it. Brussels immigration system will automatically see your stay history, work situation, insurance etc and decide to give or not to give PR.

If you are here illegally then it you need to ask the city hall for details.
