Pet cat reunited with owner after going missing at Brussels airport for 17 days

13:15 05/08/2026

Mishu, a 10-year-old cat, has been found safe and well at Brussels airport after going missing for 17 days.

It was on 17 July that Camelia returned to Belgium from Romania with her grey Chartreux feline travelling in the cargo hold of the aircraft, reports RTL info.

After landing at Brussels airport, she discovered that he had escaped its cage while disembarking the plane.

Despite attempts by staff and security personnel to locate him, Mishu remained missing for more than two weeks.

Finally, after 17 days, Camelia’s daughter, Patricia, received a phone call from the airport’s lost and found service claiming to have found the cat.

Patricia immediately contacted her mother who rushed to the airport by taxi to be reunited with her pet.

It was an emotional moment. “My mother saw him and immediately started crying. And Mishu also started meowing. It was as if they were seeing each other again after an eternity,” Patricia told Het Laatste Nieuws.

“After 17 days, I was starting to lose hope. You wonder if you’ll ever see your cat again. But this proves that anything is possible,” she added.

It remains unclear how the cat managed to survive for so long and where it was finally found.
