pre 1997 UK driving license

Question

I have a pre 1997 UK driving license, that allows me to drive A vehilce up to 7500 kilos. I am buying a larger motorhome, weighin in at 6000 kilos. Q. I get conflicting answers as to the validity of this license in Belgium. I am resident here. My local commune insists I can only drive catergory B, cars here. My local police were " not sure "

Does anyone know if I can use it ? If I need to change to a Belgin one, do I keep my old catergories ? thanks

Your C1 element is only valid 5 years from date of residence - you can then take a medical every 5 years  (I exchanged my licence and had my C1 and D1 allowed with a 5yr expiry - Im going to book my med appt soon to extend it)

Your UK licence is not valid if resident here -- Your UK licence has to show your current address and teh DVLA will not accept addresses outside the UK - easiest thing is change the license at teh commune (ensure tehy allow the 5 years)

(Catch 22 on UK licences -- should be valid in EU -- but has to show your current address - check out the DVLA website)

Thank you for your replies, XL and Luke.  It seems my best option is to follow what Luke did.  At least I do not have to re take tests.
