Price for sms sent from Belgium to other EU Member States

Question

Dear all,

Out of curiosity, I would like to know how much you pay for a sms sent from Belgium to - let's say- Germany or Italy?

I was shocked to discover today that my provider charges 40 cents wherease if I send an sms while I am away from Belgium to the same countries, that costs me only 0,09 cents!!!

So, how much do you pay with your provider?

You can get the proximus rates here:

Other companies will also post their rates on their websites.
Ultimately, it will depend on your international roaming plan with your provider.

20 cents for an SMS sent outside of Belgium with Mobile Vikings.

Blus, if it's one person you're texting often, you might want to look at messaging with Skype for free.

That's a pretty usual discrepancy...the 9 cents is a roaming charge, limited by legislation, the 40 cents is the fee for sending a text to a foreign number from your home base, not limited by legislation. We use Base and Mobile Vikings both here and for a Dutch no, and the pricing is the same.

Thanks for your replies.

I checked Proximus and they have the same rate: 40 cents/sms sent from Belgium to EU countries.

Myself I am with Telenet.

@CM: thanks for your suggestion!

I actually have a UK phone and sim and it costs me less to SMS another friend who has UK phone and lives here using that than to Sms from my Belgian phone with Mobistar or to SMS friends in Uk for that matter. Other reason I kept UK phone have awesome deal with O2 when I top it up in UK I get free calls to a overseas country I nominated Belgium, so when back to visit can ring home for free, then just use up allowance texting friend in UK till I go again. Unlike CM I found mobile Vikings a pain in the neck didn't work with my phone was really expensive to call switch back to main provider almost immediately. You could try one of these low cost sims to call and text abroad I see people selling them at midi market, the get duel sim or old phone like I have.
