Primary School Teacher

Question

I'm thinking about changing career and would like to know what are the job opportunities here in the international schools for a trained Primary School Teacher from the UK? Also I would like to know expected earnings, if anyone could advise me with some career tips. I haven't yet started the training but thinking I will do a PGCE in Primary Education (I do also have other options like Primary Education with English and Modern Languages or even a PGCE Secondary Certificate but not sure which would be best).

Very few opportunities, especially as you will be without UK teaching experience. What used to be UK teaching posts in the European schools are increasingly being taken by fluent en speaking Eastern Europeans at Primary and Secondary level and jobs in other international schools do come up rarely but 1) the quality of pay deals etc in these schools is extremely varied, and 2) as already mentioned, you will be up against very experienced candidates

As you are living in Belgium, wouldn't it make more sense to obtain Belgian qualifications?

There are opportunities in Belgium for international school teachers. You just have to look and send your CV. Teachers from the UK would be appreciated as there are a lot of American English speakers, and a variety is necessary. Anything is possible.

Pgce requires a training year in UK with school placements, it's not possible to do without one. You could do Tefl and become a language tutor without leaving Belgium.
