Refuelling in Luxembourg remains most economical

14:50 21/06/2016

Luxembourg remains the neighbouring country with the lowest fuel costs for Belgian holiday-goers, according to a survey by Belgian motoring organisation Touring. The study compared the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel in various European countries.

The results reveal that Luxembourg is still the long-time champion when it comes to refuelling cheaply: gasoline 95 is 15% less expensive on average than in Belgium (-13% for gasoline 98) and diesel is even 18% cheaper.

"Drivers do have to be patient and take into account long queues at the petrol stations,” Touring warns. “In the holiday season, you can easily spend 45 minutes just waiting your turn to fill up the tank.”

The highest prices in Europe for petrol are in the Netherlands (+21%), followed by Italy (+18%) and Norway (+17%), according to the survey. European motorists will find the cheapest petrol in Poland, Bulgaria, Latvia and Bosnia.
