Renting on medium-term?

Question

Hi, I'd like to know from your experience in renting an apartment for medium-term (meaning 9-10months long)? Are there specific types of apartments which can be rented for such periods?
We would like to leave our current apartment in which we have lived for over 7 years. We are building our house and woud like to move in Brabant Walloon, which will bring us closer to our future house, and also because we encounter disturbances from the new neighbours in our current apartment.
I called one apartment today and the agency replied that the landlord would probably not want to rent on these terms, so he didn't give a favourable end to my quest.
Thanks!

J

That would be very short term as far as renting an unfurnished apartment goes.
It's not impossible to find something on a 12 month contract, but that will be fixed, and you can expect to pay a premium for it.

Of course, you could always ask if they will rent out on that basis - you never know.

Avoid agencies is you can. IME, they are marginally less than useless at anything out of the ordinary.

I don't know, agents are pretty pushy around here. They are certainly good at trespass.

Unless it's changed, standard rental contracts are 3,6 or 9 years.
A one year contract will be possible but you just have to find someone that will agree to doing one year.
A template for making your own length contract is available if you have a friend that's a member of "test aankoop" You just fill in the blanks to suit you and both sign.
My sister in law managed to find a studio on a one year basis so I know it can be done....

You can find furnished apartments for short term lease, but I guess you'll have to store your furniture in the mean time.
