Resigning from a job in Belgium
Hi Q&A'ers,
I have a couple of questions for those of you who either work in HR (I believe there are some folks on here) or have a very good grasp of the subject.
Q1: If/when I resign, is it always 6 weeks (from the 1st of the month following the month of resignation) that I must stay with the current employer or could it be less? What if I move to another country; would it make a difference?
Q2: I'd like to understand the policy regarding the 1 paid day off per week to 'look for a new job'. Most people resign at the end of the month, so this is hardly relevant for them, but what if I resign at the beginning of the month? Can I start taking 1 paid day off per week right away or is it only valid for the 6 weeks mentioned above?
Thanks in advance for all the helpful replies.
in general: look first in YOUR contract, what it says about the termination of the current contract ..and nothing else is valid between you and your employer,
Q1: see my first sentence ...plus, if you move or not to another country, has nothing to do with your current working contract in Belgium.
If you have to stay or not within 'the leaving period' is subject to decision by your employer and/or if you still have overtime / not taken holidays etc.
Q2: not relevant if you resign - this is for people who made redundant.
