Rhode Saint Genese to Lille airport

Question

I have to pick up some people airport on a weekday from Lille airport at about 11:00, leaving from and driving back to Rhode Saint Genese, near Waterloo. One way is to take the ring and the E40 to Ghent, and then E17 to Lille. I know there are road works near Ghent that would slow things down. The alternative is route A8 from the ring directly to Lille, but I have no idea what it's like. Can anyone please help with which route would be faster?

The A8 is generally fast and stress free. Sometimes a small hold up as you join from the ring but unless there is an accident somewhere you shouldn't experience any problems at all. It's also a very pretty route driving through some lovely countryside!

To add to the first response, the A8 route is considerably shorter and, as Lille airport is to the south-east of the city, you would not have to go anywhere near the built-up area whereas, using the E40 and E17, you would have to go completely round - or through - Lille.
