‘Royal lovechild’ Delphine Boël the star draw at UK art fair
Delphine Boël, the Belgian artist who made headlines earlier this month when she demanded that Belgium’s royal family submit to DNA tests to confirm her claims that she is the illegitimate daughter of recently-abdicated King Albert II, is one of the brightest attractions at this week’s Art Southampton fair, reports Art Info. British dealer Cynthia Corbett is showing Boël’s neon light and sculptural works in her booth, including the piece she made in 2011 titled “Love Child” as an allusion to her potentially-royal parentage. Boël’s playful, text-based works reflect her wry sense of humour which, in a statement, she describes as “an allergic reaction to the power of gossip, rumours, and blabla small talk in general.” One of her other sculptures on view in Corbett’s booth (#A33), incidentally, is titled “The Golden Rule Blabla” (2009) and consists of the word “blah blah” made of gold-plated steel.
