Savina Yannatou & Primavera en Salonico with Lamia Bedioui (Greece/Tunisia)
With Lamia Bedioui, Savina Yannatou and Primavera en Salonico take you on a journey of musical exploration of water.
Water is the central element of the new project by soprano Savina Yannatou. Water from rivers, rain. Water in the body. Water as a danger for refugees on the sea. Water scarcity. In this new project, she performs on stage with Lamia Bedioui whose tales and songs, in Arabic and Bedouin dialects, offer the strongest or most subdued nuances.
Both are accompanied by Primavera and Salonico, a group with which Savina Yannatou has recorded several albums for the ECM Records label and has toured all over the world. Together, they offer us Mediterranean songs from different eras. Oud, qanun, violin, accordion, percussion, waterphone, mbira and double bass accompany the voices in a balanced approach between tradition and modernity. Their free and playful arrangements, leaving plenty of room for improvisation, produce a unique sound resulting from thirty years of collaboration. With Primavera en Salonico, the Greek singer, who masters vocal techniques from all over the world, gives her own interpretation of traditional music, ranging from Greek wedding songs to Slavic or Sephardic Jewish songs.
