Sheraton Brussels Airport hotel closed due to fire safety concerns
The mayor of Zaventem has ordered the temporary closure of the Sheraton hotel at Brussels Airport, following the advice of the Flemish Brabant West fire brigade, citing fire safety issues.
During operational tests, it was discovered that certain fire safety systems in the hotel did not meet the applicable standards. The Sheraton Airport Hotel was closed on Friday night.
This is a precautionary measure, Brussels Airport said, adding that there were no incidents that could have endangered the safety of hotel guests or staff.
The hotel has been owned by Brussels Airport since 2018, while Marriott International is responsible for management and maintenance under an operating agreement.
“We will ensure that the necessary measures are taken by the parties involved to remedy this situation,” Marriott International said.
Guests affected by the temporary closure are being contacted personally by the hotel to find a suitable solution as quickly as possible.
