Skip Hire

Question

Hi all,
After a big spring clean and some work around the house I have run out of places to bring stuff for recycling so I want to hire a small skip (which I gather is called a "container" here). I've found a few places online such as SITA and AA Containers but they seem to be more geared for big construction jobs as their smallest skip to hire is 10m squared. Also, they seem to only hire for very specific purposes i.e. for wood or construction or green waste. Will it be a problem that it is mixed waste I want to get rid of? Any recommendations or advise would be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Emille B.

Mixed waste in a container is much more expensive than sorted waste , if you make the effort to sort the waste , the cheapest option might be to rent a trailer and got to the communal recycling park , which is the cheapest option imho.
Also inquire at somewhat smaller container companies, the big ones like Sita are very expensive and less flexible.
Also , keep in mind that a skip on your doorstep is filled at night by , various people from the neighbourhood , at your expense....

The reason there are different prices is that they have to pay to dump the stuff after they've taken it away from you.
If it's a mixed waste skip, they take it back to their depot, and then sort it out themselves into wood, metal, earth, plastic etc, before taking the various parts to the various approved municipal dumps for disposal.
A "mixed" container is by far the most expensive, as you are paying for their labor to sort it, in addition to the actual skip.

Thanks for the responses. It seems like hiring a trailer or van and taking the stuff to the dump myself is the best way to go.
