SNCB investigates after Palestinian flags appear at Brussels-Central station
Belgian railway operator SNCB has said that it is looking into how seven Palestinian flags were placed on the roof of Brussels-Central station building last Friday afternoon without authorisation.
How and when unknown persons put up those flags is unclear, Bruzz reports, but SNCB has since had them removed.
The Palestinian flags were placed where the flags of Belgium and the European Union normally fly above the Europa junction at the main entrance to Brussels-Central.
“There was no permission for that at all,” said SNCB spokesperson Bart Crols. “As soon as we saw those flags, we had them removed. We regret and condemn this intrusion.”
SNCB is conducting an investigation into the incident, which sparked a flood of messages on social media, with one person asking: "Why is a train station taking sides in a conflict?"
When contacted by RTBF, an SNCB spokesperson said that the perpetrators had not yet been identified and the investigation remained under way.
