Spa grand prix website hacked in phishing attempt

07:14 20/03/2024

The website for the Spa-Francorchamps Grand-Prix has been the victim of a major cyberattack and several fans became victims of a phishing attempt over the past few days.

Hackers used data they collected from fans to send emails to a large number of people containing a fake €50 coupon to be redeemed on the Formula 1 website, RTBF reports.

Some of the site's users clicked on the link and were then asked for their bank and credit card details.

“It has come to our attention that a fraudulent e-mail has been sent inviting users to click on a link supposedly intended to enable them to receive a €50 gift voucher,” said Vanessa Maes, Spa Grand Prix's general manager.

"This is an attempt at phishing. We strongly advise against clicking on this link.

"As a general rule, we ask our customers to be extremely careful when they are asked for their personal details (particularly bank details). Spa Grand Prix never solicits confidential information by email in order to obtain a gift of any kind."
