Specific Question on Complementary Insurance (Assurance Complementaire)
Hello all,
I have a query I would like some help with. Basically, my family and I have compulsory health insurance (assurance obligatoire) with Partenamut and receive 70% reimbursement of medical fees. We are now considering whether to upgrade to complementary insurance (assurance complementaire) but I'm wondering what exactly the benefit is. Basically I have read the explanations where they offer money for acne treatment, homeopothy, opticians, sports club refund money etc, etc, but I am not interested in any of that. What I am interested in is whether upgrading to complementary insurance will give me a bigger percentage refund of my out-patient medical bills.
I have hospitalisation insurance from my work which covers incidents of hospitalisation, so I'm not interested in that aspect either. Ideally, I would like to have an insurance plan which gives me 100% reimbursement of all out-patient appointments and procedures with my doctor. So, if I need to visit my GP for a check-up, or if my wife needs to visit her foot-doctor for example for a minor procedure, I would like all of those costs to be covered by the mutuelle. Will complementary insurance (assurance complementaire) provide this?
Thanks in advance. I also want to say thanks to all the people on this site who provide invaluable and helpful information to people when they need it. I have found this website to be a great resource when feeling confused or overwhelmed by silly rules and bureacracy in Belgium.
Are you sure you are only insured for obligatory level? That is for people who are unemployed / on the sick? Complementary level is for people who work, as far as I understand? Well that's what my mutuelle tell me. You mention hospitalisation insurance that you have from work, so I'm assuming you are therefore at complementary level. I claim for sports club memberships, credits of sports stages etc, what I pay in per month is less than what I claim back through these small sports club / stage credits. I pay 5 euro to see the GP.
I'd do the sums first, to see what you can claim back, plus what you currently claim for.
