Tax return though living in UK

Question

Hello.
having lived in Bxl for 15 years, I returned to live in the UK in 2008 and cut all ties with Belgium. I then worked in the UK until my retirement in 2012. My husband returned to UK in 2015 on getting his Belgian pension. His bank and Belgian tax authorities continue to send correspondance and tax returns in both our names although his pension dies with him (ie sole account). He says..'that'sthe way it is in Belgium' despite my submitting my own tax return here in the UK and asking him and ING to remove my details from his accounts. Is he correct? Is he perhaps getting a tax allowancce for his 'spouse'?
Incidentally I currently receive the enormous sum of 300 euros per annum Belgian pensiont which I'm considering foregoing..... I dont think it's worth it for the hassle factor. Many thanks for your kind replies and shedding any light on all this.

Unfortunately, you did not cut all your ties; you left a husband behind. As far as the Belgian authorities are concerned, you remain married until such time as you are divorced and that either in Belgium or by an authority which is recognised here. The fact that one or both or of you no longer lives here is irrelevant. And this ruling is not exclusive to Belgium and the UK. (I write from bitter, long-drawn-out experience.)
