Just like to thank the posters who have replied to my questions about public transport in Brussels and places to visit.

my niece has now left belgium after her visit with a great impression (though not impressed with the scaffolding creation in the grand place brussels) -- The rail pass had them travelling at low cost throughout Belgium for a few days. Her feedback is that public transport in Belgium is excellent and very good value for money (compared to UK anyway!)
