Thanks for the advice

Question

Why is it so few people who post questions and receive advice actually say thanks? A bit bored I looked at the previous 25 Questions which received answers and 4 got feedback from the asker. or just 16%.   There are a number of people here who give advice and share experiences, some of it quite lengthly and specialised. If you don't like the advice, you should still acknowledge the time and effort people go to to try and help. Go on, you know it is just the decent thing to do.

That is one thing - but, what really bugs me is how often somebody want something, like looking for a golfing companion or I want to start a new band etc, but then don't leave any contact info behind, expecting the person that is supposed to help them leave theirs...

That's a good point, B. Is it me being dumb, but I can't see a PM system on this forum? That is usual nowadays, at least on the other forums I use. It would make it easier for people to get in touch directly without having to leave their private details which understandably they may be reluctant to do.

If you do try to get some sort of response out of people to try to help them, there's almost always someone prepared to have a go at YOU for trying to get enough information to actually work out what the OP is asking.

Not that I care. People will sometimes ask for help with things that are clearly going to be a massive life-changing decisions, and every now and again, you can make the difference and help them make the right choice.

It never ceases to amaze me just how many people just ask questions looking for material to justify their own position. Sort of like copy-pasting a sentence out of context and use it to justify their own flawed arguments.

I agree J, particularly with the second paragraph but also overall.

It's good to help, but the other person has to do their bit, to give enough information to avoid time-wasting and also to ensure that people, like yourself, continue to be happy to help in future by just being decent.
