These are Brussels' two best wine bars, experts say
The Bar du Canal on Rue Dansaert and L'Etiquette, near the Abbaye de la Cambre, have been voted the two best wine bars in Brussels by a panel of wine experts.
Judges from the Inter Wine & Dine oenology school visited 22 wine bars in central Brussels and some of the neighbouring municipalities to reach their conclusion.
They evaluated each venue according to criteria including the setting, price range, food options, diversity of the menu and the quality of the service.
L'Etiquette, which picked up a certificate of excellence from TripAdvisor in 2013, is located just behind the Avenue Louise.
It stocks around 100 wines, accompanied by local products including mature cheeses and sliced deli meats. A range of wine accessories and gadgets is also on sale, and the bar organises regular tasting workshops and oenology classes.
Le Bar du Canal has about 80 wines, cheese boards, cold cuts and its famous "smeurebreud" - Danish black bread.
The two winners were described as "must-visits", while four others received the runners-up label: "worth seeing". They were The Wine Club (Uccle), Titulus (Ixelles), La Trinquette (Saint-Gilles) and Tarzan (Ixelles).
