Things required for civil wedding - Saint Gilles

I live in Ixelles and going to get the list of documents required on Tuesday. First thing you need to do is go and register your intent and tell them a date. Then closer to d-day you need to provide the docs.

I am also a Brit and my fiancé is French, one thing I know that needs to be done is a translation of my birth certificate.

I'm American and was married in Flanders, so the process might differ for you, but I was required to request a new birth certificate from the States. I was told it had to be a certified copy less than 6 months old. I also had to have an apostille affixed, then an official translation performed. This all took roughly 6 weeks, so best to start planning early.

You need to make an appointment with the consulate. I see it on the site.

For Ixelles I need a Certificate of Custom/Law (Certificat de Coutume) and a Certificate of celibacy (certificat de célibat) but I don't know if they do them both at the same time or not. I have sent them a question from the site.

I am confused about the birth certificate, whether a certified translated copy is good or they also want a English copy as well. Any idea?
