Top summer at coast but still complaints

12:52 26/08/2013

Despite the beautiful weather and crowds of tourists this summer, the season has been surprisingly slow for the restaurant and hotel industry. This year tourists are spending significantly less, according to a survey by Unizo, the organisation that represents the self-employed. Restaurant owners complain that many tourists prefer to just buy sandwiches on the go, rather than sit down somewhere to eat. Others note that parents often buy one ice cream for their children to share. Hotels have also noticed that seaside visits are becoming much shorter, with tourists staying only three to four days instead of the usual two weeks or even an entire month. Unizo points to the impact of the economic crisis as one of the reasons for this downsizing trend.
