Trespassing YouTubers film themselves on top of Brussels skyscrapers
Four Youtubers have filmed themselves illegally entering two government buildings in Brussels in order to access their roofs and record stunts.
In a 23-minute video that accrued 67,000 views in four days and has since been made private, the four pose as interns to bypass reception at the Iris Tower and the Astro Tower.
The group recorded their route to the roofs of both buildings. They claimed that the images contained within the video are completely fictitious and were created using artificial intelligence and avatars, although it is clear the footage is genuine and security camera footage and Instagram photos document the trespassing.
Such intrusions into administrative buildings can, depending on the circumstances, lead to a sentence of up to two years in prison.
The Iris Tower is 137 metres high and houses the Brussels Regional Public Service (BRPS), among other services, and the Astro Tower is 107 metres high and serves as the headquarters of employment services Actiris and VDAB.
Management at both towers say they will file formal complaints, calling the stunts "irresponsible".
The YouTubers have posted similar content before, showing how they have gained access to other off-limits rooftops in Belgium such as the dome of the Basilica of Koekelberg and the roof of The Hotel on Avenue Louise, as well as from similar adventures abroad including Paris and New York.
“With all my videos, I have been raising awareness,” one of the Youtubers told RTL.
“And with this undercover one, it was to denounce and raise awareness of security breaches.
"Under no circumstances did I want to disrespect anyone. I made sure never to break anything or force my way in. I just tested the security flaws."
