Trump nominates new US ambassador to Belgium
US president Donald Trump has nominated former baseball team co-owner, Jamie McCourt as ambassador to Belgium.
According to the Los Angeles Times, McCourt is currently an attorney and investor in Southern California who co-owned the Los Angeles Dodgers with her ex-husband, Frank McCourt, until 2011. At one point, she served as team CEO.
The White House press release announcing her new role added: “She speaks French.”
The former ambassador, Denise Bauer, served in the position since 2013 when she was nominated by former president Barack Obama. Bauer had been a longtime donor to US democratic campaigns.
McCourt is considered a major Republican donor, even contributing to Trump’s presidential campaign. She was listed as State Victory Finance Chair in July 2016 for Trump’s campaign.
Before moving forward, the Senate must confirm McCourt’s nomination.

The wife of one of the most reprehensible men in the US. Great! And the WH demonstrates its complete ignorance of the issues at hand with the "She speaks French" comment. When she and Frank bought the Dodgers and came carpetbagging to Los Angeles they created a great wave of disgust even among the elite.
She must be a member of the Trump Billionaires' Club. Those are the only people Trump feels are worthy of being part of the Trump regime, according to statements he himself has made. Traditionally-speaking, many if not most ambassadorships are pay-offs for ludicrously generous campaign donations. It's the American way, sadly.
