UK Car in Belgium

Question

Hello - I'm relocating back to Belgium from the UK and wanted to check if anyone has imported a UK car to Belgium post-Brexit.

I also wanted to ask if I can register for city parking with a UK license place as I could see I'm initially allowed to drive the car with UK license plates for 6 months but wonder if Brussels municipality will accept foreign car documents.

Thanks

Nothing to stop you importing a UK registered car.

I'll just caution that unless you have a passenger to travel with, a RHD car is a major pain if you ever want to enter any ticket controlled parking or entrance / drive through takeaway / payage on the motorway, etc.

i.e. anything where you need to be on the left hand side of the car.

You probably don't think much about it, but you will after grappling over the seats to get to the left hand window to get a parking entrance ticket, or your favorite McDonalds!

I am going through the same thing. I can give an example for Ixelles, one can get the parking permit for a car with foreign plates. They do accept the foreign documents.
However one gets a provisional 3-month permit, to allow you to import and register the car properly. Then you will have to communicate the new Belgian plates.

Unfortunately, I am still trying to understand the full procedure to import a car as part of my moving to Belgium, not to pay VAT and customs...still far from it.
I do not want to pay anybody else to do the paperwork for me.
If you do have some tips feel free to respond here.

I have already driven my UK car in Europe a lot on holidays and it is true, anything that requires the driver to do something from the seat, like taking a ticket at a parking, or highway toll station, is a pain, if there is no passenger.

My car would be double the value in Belgium, compared to the UK market, but that is for the LHD equivalent.

I do like my car a lot, but I am strongly considering selling it in the UK and then buying a used one in Belgium, meaning I will probably have to take a hit in the interior perceived quality of the Belgian used car unless I spend more money than what I get with the UK sale, which I am not keen on...
