Today is my first day as unemployed after 5 months work.
Is there any point in hurrying to the unemployment office?
I think I need to have worked 186 days in a certain period to qualify, and I only have these 5 months in the last 2 years.

Yes.
If you leave it, they could argue that you had better things to do and therefore not backdate any benefits you're entitled to.
