In collaboration with the Brussels Studies Institute (BSI), researchers from VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles) are launching a survey to identify what people really think of traffic in the Bois de la Cambre, the VUB announced on Wednesday.

This survey comes at a time when a debate over the potential closure of the wood, which has stirred public opinion in recent weeks, continues to rage.

“With this research, we hope to get to know the people who are for and against motorised traffic in the woods and their motivations," explains VUB researcher Nicola da Schio. "This information is useful for groups on both sides and can enable them to better articulate their claims. With the results, we can also come up with solutions that are supported by a majority."

The questionnaire is anonymous. It is available in Dutch, French and English. It includes questions about the current use of Bois de la Cambre, mobility habits, the use of green spaces and the ambitions for the future of the site.

The results will be announced in early 2021.
