Upwork and Similar

Question

Anybody managed to get work through Upwork (ODesk, Elance) or similar sites?

What kind? Any IT?

How does it work with tax? Esp, do you need to have a company or VAT number first?

too much to die, too low for living!
Much too much global competitors, e.g. low cost countries from Eastern Europe or Asia - if you cannot provide services in demanded areas (here mostly fluent translation services into German, Eastern languages etc.) you will just compete with millions.
Yes, you have to be registered as BE freelancer with BE VAT number - its a professional B2B platform. and your smallish income will be taxed here.

I always find freelancers at www.freelancer.com
Thus, very often they make deals & preferred to get payment via WU or PayPal.

Is it difficult to use a VAT number from another country?
(I am in IT, so if Indians charge 15, I should be able to get 20 - So I could actually survive)

What's you problem with setting yourself up as a legit freelancer with a Belgian VAT number and working through an agency for 300-600/day?

(i.e. Just work legally and stop trying to cut corners or be clever)
