What to do?

Question

Good morning,
I have diagnosed depression and currently on sick leave. As this has been going on for a long time, I have a feeling that this time when I go back to work they will fire me. My question is what is best for me. Go unemployed through my mutuelle or chomage? I have five more years to go on pension and I have a dependant. Thank you for your replies.

To start with you can't be fired that easily. However if you feel (I say this with compassion not critically) that you can't go back to work it would be best for you to get fired and have chomage. The income is higher and will remain so at your age. I would nevertheless get proper information from your mutuelle on how they assess you etc and from Actiris. It depends from case to case, age, time working in Belgium etc. Don't rely on info given to you here.

Hello,

It is already a good step asking for help. In case you are interested, I offer free art therapy sessions (you just need to bring your own materials, or use the one that I have for very little money). Art therapy can really help you put things into perspective and get a new view on your life. It can really help in building your self-esteem which is directly linked to depression. If you need more information check out: www.chezpinkelephant.com.

Best of luck,

Anamaria
