Exit Festival 2 (c)Courtesy Halles de Schaerbeek

Could you summarise the content of your three-year college degree in eight minutes? That’s the challenge facing graduates of Brussels’ school of circus arts during the Exit Festival. The performers have learned technique and skills involving strength, balance and timing, but they have also broadened their concepts of culture and performance in working closely with students from around the world. The result is two hours of energy and audacity but also a portrait of a generation figuring out how to live in an upside-down world – figuratively and literally. 14-18 June, Les Halles, Rue Royale Sainte-Marie 22 (Schaerbeek)

Well, the ACCJM - Association des Commerçants du Carrefour Jean Monnet - likes to celebrate the shops’ diversity and brilliant customer care. At every participating store, prizes are on offer for clients, including wine and chocolate tastings, prize raffles, price discounts, second free drink and more. At around 19.00, every biodegradable red balloon will be assembled on Carrefour Jean Monet and released simultaneously to celebrate the occasion. Check out ACCJM’s Facebook page to find out which shops are participating and when they open their doors. 13 June 19.00, Carrefour Jean Monnet

OUTSIDE BRUSSELS

Books

“I always imagined Paradise to be some kind of a library,” famed Argentine writer (and librarian) once said. We couldn’t agree more and encourage readers to pay a visit to Serve the City’s 2nd Hand English Book Sale at Stonemanor British store in Everberg, a few kilometres east of Brussels. You’ll find previously loved fiction, non-fiction and books for kids at the sale, where you can also donate your own books you no longer need. It’s a win-win. 10 June 10.00-15.30, Steenhofstraat 28, Everberg (Kortenberg)

Bruges Beer Festival (c)Visit Flanders

The Bruges Beer Festival celebrates its 15th anniversary by moving into the city’s Meeting & Convention Centre, which just opened last year. Some 500 brews will be available from 80 breweries, mostly Belgian but with a smattering of other Europeans breweries on site. For the designated drivers among you, there are also non-alcoholic libations available as well as food and a raffle, where you can win … beer. 10-11 June, BMCC, Beursplein 1, Bruges

Peter Depelchin

Belgian multidisciplinary artist Peter Depelchin explores mythology in Hommage à Pan at Château de Thozée in Namur province. The contemporary artist, born in Ostend in 1985, honours the ever-fascinating hybrid creature Pan, while examining the ability of everyone to undergo metamorphosis and change. Depelchin takes visitors on a journey through Greek antiquity, Baroque art, symbolism, modernism and modernity, all through his own prism that’s equally ironic, amused and passionate. Part of a dual exhibition, the second show is currently staged at the Rops Museum in Namur. Until 2 July, Château de Thozée, Rue de Thozée 12, Mettet
