The Bulletin has pairs of tickets to give away for the concert at the Tour & Taxis venue

Le Baixu music venue in Tour & Taxis is hosting an evening of chamber music performed by Lithuanian pianist Monika Dars and Italian-Brazilian cellist Eduardo Tonietto on 15 December.

The duo will present a captivating program of three masterpieces: Debussy's evocative Sonata for Cello and Piano, Janáček's poetic Pohádka, and Brahms' lyrical Sonata in D Major, Op. 78, originally written for violin and beautifully adapted for the cello.

Dars has established herself as an internationally acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, performing around the world. A laureate of national and international piano competitions, her recent accolades include the Joseph Darche Piano Prize (Belgium) and 2nd prize at the Luigi Nono Chamber Music Competition (Italy). She currently teaches chamber music at the Royal Conservatory in Mons.

Passionate about chamber music, Dars frequently collaborates with leading musicians such as Frans Helmerson, Philippe Graffin and Elisabeth Zeuthen Schneider. She received her artistic training in Lithuania, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland, studying under renowned pianists including Daniel Blumenthal and Ewa Kupiec.

Tonietto is a versatile cellist, celebrated for his work across classical and jazz genres. He has collaborated with world-renowned musicians such as Mischa Maisky, the Jerusalem Quartet and jazz luminaries like Lars Danielsson and Aaron Parks.

As a soloist, Tonietto has performed with distinguished orchestras, including Sinfonietta Cracovia and the Brussels Chamber Orchestra, and he regularly teaches and conducts masterclasses worldwide. In addition to his classical work, he is the founder and artistic director of the Chamber Jazz Consort and currently serves as the artistic director of the Brussels Muzieque platform, curating concert series in Brussels and beyond.

This concert promises to be a rich and moving experience, showcasing the deep artistry of two exceptional musicians in a programme that bridges romantic lyricism and modern expressiveness.

Le Baixu is a nonprofit venue that serves as a springboard for young and emerging talent in classical, jazz and world music. Founded in 2022, it occupies an atmospheric cellar space under the industrial heritage site of Tour & Taxis. Situated below the Brussels circus school, it boasts excellent acoustics, which is a big draw for musicians and recording sessions.
