Trio Memento to perform classical concert at Le Baixu on 16 June

09:52 08/06/2023

Young Belgian ensemble Trio Memento invites audiences to embark on a Jules Verne-themed musical journey at Le Baixu on 16 June.

Founded in 2017, the trio consists of Luis Corral (violin), Alvaro Quintero (cello) and Jung Bin Lim (piano). All graduates of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, they are passionate about chamber music.

For their latest concert, the trio was inspired by Jules Verne's literary masterpiece, Around the World in 80 Days. Its main character is Phileas Fogg, an English gentleman who bets with the members of his club that he can circumnavigate the earth in 80 days.

Fogg completed the journey in record time by using all means of transport, from liners, yachts and merchant ships, to railways, cars, sledges and elephants. This is the challenge Memento Trio sets itself. How to visit some of the most mythical places around the world through the musical repertoire of the 20th century all in one concert?

So their journey starts in Belgium, passes through Spain and the Czech Republic before continuing to China and Korea. They then head to North and Latin America and make a stop in Ireland before returning to Belgium. The evening’s varied repertoire promises to be a whirlwind experience!

The concert is part of Le Baixu’s diverse and packed musical programme. This new venue at Tour & Taxis boasts excellent acoustics and provides a platform for quality artists from all musical genres in Brussels and beyond. Located in a cellar of the historic building, it offers music fans a unique and convivial experience.

Ticket prices are €15 for adults, €10 for students.
