Work in IT domain

Question

Hi,
Anyone aware of offers for IT/graphic processing/photo related jobs in Belgium? I speak english and have notions of both French and Dutch and looking for something for quite a while now to the point of losing faith in the normal search for job, send a cv ritual.

Revamp CV
Phone first, then send CV, them follow up with more phone calls
Consider freelance and look into how you might operate

Forget work as a photographer unless you have a professional qualification as a photographer. It's one of those professions you can't do here unless you have the correct qualification (as is hairdressing!)

J - you always have sound advice here...I often read this advice to 'call first' but unless you have an inside contact, that is usually nipped in the bud, speaking from brief experience. What approach would you suggest?

Gabriel - it is a tough market, but keep trying. Have you looked into http://www.freelance.com/en/ ? It's a slave market, but if you do go independent and need a client, it might be a reasonable starting point.

Usually, when you see a job ad, it's through a recruitment agency.
There's almost invariably a named person. If their phone number isn't there, it usually takes 5 minutes on Google to find the office number and ring and ask to speak to X.

You can then discuss the vacancy, and if it sounds good, they will be expecting your CV and will pay attention to it as soon as it comes in (rather than a random email that they will deal with in due course) . Remember, if they're any good, they smell the commission at this point.

Then follow up with more phone calls. If they are crap, they will just put you forward for the job to get you off their back.

Thank you all for the advice so far. Calling is a very good idea but most of the time, if it is a belgian recruiter, they would send me away if I try to get info in English... However, out of the links sent I was not following jobserve so far and I immediately spotted 2 possibilities here so I'll try my luck there. I am already set for freelancing and freelance.com is interesting but is very difficult to get hold of a contract due to the impossibly low pricing for the western world offered 99.99% of the time by far situated persons. More ideas and tips are warmly welcomed.
