Working at Berlitz
Hello, has anyone here taught at Berlitz? I have an interview but am surprised that they want to 1 to test me and 2 ask for a copy of my diploma. I've worked in many professional jobs and have neverbeen asked to actually provide my diploma, and I'm a native speaker so don't know what they would test! Is this your experience?
It is routine. Most teaching jobs in Brussels would want to test you and see your diplomas. The days when merely being a native speaker was enough are long gone. At least in the good schools. The British Council would want to see the original of your degree and your teaching qualification certificate. Again, the original.
If you have not yet had an interview, all they know is that you SAY that you are a native speaker and have got a diploma.
Why are you surprised that, before employing you, they want to confirm that you are not exaggerating your qualifications and skills? People do, you know!
So what happens when you don't have the original diploma, and what difference does it make if it's a verifiable copy?
It's just due diligence on their behalf to make sure you're not full of shit. You'd be surprised at how often the perfect paper candidate turns out to have lied on their CV or application. You'd also be surprised at how infrequent it is to find a recruiter who makes proper checks.
I'd expect Berlitz have learnt the hard way, and now safeguard their reputation through a simple face-to-face interview.
Berlitz pays real low income. You are better off trying a different school or even applying in Belgiun schools. There are in cruel needs of English teachers
