10 days of strike action ahead on Belgian railways
A union representing Belgian rail workers has announced plans for 10 days of strike action in late May and in June.
Meanwhile, flights operated by Brussels Airlines face disruption next week due to a strike by pilots.
On the SNCB rail network, the Metisp union plans to strike on the following days:
- 28 and 29 May
- 4, 5 and 6 June
- 13, 14 and 15 June
- 18 and 19 June
The walkouts are in protest at what the union calls a "desire for increased productivity" - including new performance targets - which it says could have "adverse effects on rail safety, as tired workers are likely to be less alert".
Unions at Brussels Airlines are calling on pilots to strike next Monday and Wednesday - 14 and 16 May - for a pay rise. Cabin and ground crew could also join the movement.
The airline strike affects 34,000 passengers on 278 scheduled flights. Anyone with a ticket on the affected days can apply for a free exchange or refund.
