13 businesses closed after spot check in Ixelles shopping arcade
All but one of the 14 shops in the Matonge gallery in Ixelles have been closed following an unannounced check by police and inspection services over the weekend.
A host of violations were found, according to the Brussels Labour Auditorate, including illegally employed workers, undeclared work and violations of regulations on part-time employment.
Workplace inspectors found that nine people were employed illegally in the shops in the gallery between Chaussée d'Ixelles and Chaussée de Wavre.
“This was a multidisciplinary control of compliance with social and tax law obligations by the Regional Employment Inspectorate, the NSSO Inspectorate, and the Finance Inspectorate,” authorities said in a statement.
“They were assisted by the Brussels Capital-Ixelles police zone and the federal police.”
