3,500 police reinforcements needed for Nato summit

22:07 14/03/2018

Local police forces in Ghent and Vilvoorde have refused to send officers to Brussels for this summer's Nato summit, which will be attended by Donald Trump.

Some 3,500 extra police are needed, according to the Belgian federal police force, and local units have been asked to assign 10% of their officers to the summit, which will run from 11-12 July.

According to VTM, Ghent and Vilvoorde have rejected the request from interior minister Jan Jambon because they are under-staffed.

July's summit will take place in Nato's new headquarters in Haren.
