Air Belgium has officially declared itself insolvent and filed for bankruptcy before the Walloon Brabant commercial court.
Some of the airline’s operations will be taken over by French shipping group CMA CGM, preserving 124 of the company's 400 jobs.
Its passenger division, however, will be completely shut down.
“The suspended claims, including unreimbursed passenger tickets, are now part of the claims placed under the authority of the liquidator,” the Belgian airline said.
The company is therefore no longer able to refund the tickets of the approximately 10,500 passengers who were left stranded after the sudden suspension of the airline's flights to South Africa and Mauritius in September 2023.
