15:14 14/12/2023

Brussels’ public transport network Stib has launched a festive tram service this season, complete with Father Christmas and his elves, carols, gift wrapping and free candy.

Until 5 January, the holiday tram will be trundling along the Stib network’s line 92. Running between Schaerbeek station and Fort Jaco in Uccle, the service runs through Rue Royale and Avenue Louise, among other city centre locations.

The distinctive carriages are all dressed up in Christmas colours for the occasion, while LED lighting adds a twinkle to the seasonal tram.

Passengers can enjoy a photo opportunity with Father Christmas and his mischievous elves on board the tram on 20 December from 12.30 to 15.30.  They will also be available for photos at Rogier Station on 23 December from 10.00 to 14.00.

The busy elves are handing out barley sugar candy cane on the tram every Wednesday until the end of the month (13, 20 and 27 December).

As well as distributing sweets, the capital’s public transport network has more treats in store.

An audio feast awaits with Christmas carols announcing the tram’s stops at Sainte-Marie, Botanique, Royale, Louise, Janson and Vanderkindere. The musical entertainment comes courtesy of Stib’s staff choir AkoeSTIB.

The choir is in action belting out Christmas favourites at De Brouckère station on 16 December from 11.00 to 15.00, and Rogier on 19 December from 12.30 to 13.30.

The jingles on the rails programme continues with the choir’s voices resonating from the loudspeakers of metro stations  from 21 to 31 December.

Passengers can have their gifts specially wrapped at Stib stations on 23 and 30 December from 11.00 to 15.00. They have the choice of either a transport network map or the numbers of the Stib lines for the distinctive gift wrap.

Rogier station hosts a festive stand at the Stib pop-up store, next to the BOOTIK point of sale. It’s open until 23 December from 12.00. to 18.00 and offers various items in the Stib colors, from scale models of buses, trams and metros, to objects made from recycled materials.
